Haryana
is a small and prospective state with wide variability of terrain characteristics
and associated ecosystem. Compulsive demand of natural resources due to heavy
demographic pressure and consequent over exploitation and misuse of the available
resources which, if not properly managed and conserved, may lead to ecological
threats. Such situation immediately call for scientific management of natural
resources for achieving the twin objective of meeting the demands of human population
and sustaining improving the environmental balance. Information derived from remote
sensing data on natural resources and environment in conjunction with those conventionally
obtain has the capability to provide the necessary inputs for developing viable
plans for resources assessments, monitoring and management on scientific principles.
