SCIENCE
POPULARISATION PROGRAMME
The
State Council has been implementing Science Popularisation
Programmes in the State through voluntary Agencies, educational
institutions and district administration to take Science to
the people and ensure peoples participation in Science popularisation.
These programmes are aimed at developing scientific temper
amongst different sections of people. The council in active
collaboration with National Council for Science & Technology
Communications (NCSTC) and Vigyan Parsar(autonomous organisations
of DST/GOI) has initiated a number of programmes for school
children, teachers and the general masses.
(a)
ESSAY WRITING
COMPETITION
FOR
SCHOOL
AND COLLEGE STUDENTS
Every
year the Science Essay Writing Competition for School and
college students are organized from July to Feb. The S&T
Council conducts Essay Writing competition for school and
college students separately every year. The main aim for conducting
the said competition is to create the scientific temper among
the student community. The various colleges/engineering colleges/DEO’s
of the state are requested to send the entries of essays for
participation in the competitions. The Council provides attractive
prizes to the winners of the competitions. The detail in this
regard is as under:
I.
FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS
This
competition is organized for the students of 9-12 standard.
The all DEOs of the state are asked to conduct the Essay Writing
Competition at district level for school students in their
respective district.Entries are short listed at the district
level. The short listed candidates are interviewed at the
district level. Thereafter, the DEO concerned recommends the
best 10 entries for participation at the State Level Competition.
At the state level, the S&T Council sends these entries
to the three experts for evaluation. 39 students (three times
the number of prizes) are called for interview to be conducted
by the Council .On this basis the result is prepared. The
following prizes will be given to the winners:-

10 consolation prizes of Rs, 1000/- each
II.
FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
The
college/universities etc. of the state are requested to conduct
the Science Essay Writing Competitions at the undergraduate
level. At the college level entries are short listed. Then
the short listed candidates are interviewed at the college
level. Thereafter, the Principal concerned recommends the
best three entries for participation at the state level competition.
At the state level, the S&T Council sends these entries
to the three experts for evaluation. 39 students (three times
the number of prizes) are called for interview to be conducted
by the S&T Council. On this basis the result is prepared.

SCIENCE QUIZ CONTESTS
Haryana
State Council for Science & Technology (HSCST) organizes
State Level Science Quiz Contests as an annual activity.
The
objectives of the quiz contests are to create deep sense of
curiosity among youth to get to the root of the problem, to
change the thinking about science, on being convinced and
imparting science education through fun and entertainment.
The quiz contests are organized by District Education Officers
firstly at district level and then at divisional level by
HSCST and finally at state level. Contests commence
from August and conclude by January month of the next year.

CHILDREN SCIENCE CONGRESS
HSCST
in collaboration with Haryana Vigyan Manch, an NGO and district
administration organizes Children Science Congress simultaneously
in all the districts by conducting Science Debate, on
the spot Science Poster and Slogan Competition, Science Rally,
Explaining Miracles etc. For organisation of children Congress,
the S&T Council has constituted a committee under the
Chairmanship of respective ADC and other members of the committee
are Representative of HVM, District Education Officer and
representative of HSCST.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY
Proposals
for celebrating National Science day are invited from schools,
colleges, universities/institution of Haryana
State on the theme
selected by DST, GOI. After receiving their proposals grant
is provided for the purpose. The scheme is a joint collaboration
between HSCST and NCSTC.
(e)
PUBLICATION OF RESOURCE ATLAS
A
resource Atlas has been published by HSCST in collaboration
NRDMS Centre. The Atlas contains important information about
Haryana in respect of geography, natural resources, wasteland,
political map, transportation map and map of the districts
showing block boundaries etc. and will serve as a useful document
for preparation of plan of various user departments.
